The Maypole in Wakefield

Nice looking place from outside, plenty of tables most of them dirty when we went in, food on the floor too, staff need to be cleaning up more. Reasonable prices on drinks and plenty of choice. Didn't eat there not sure what time food is served until but must be a busy place to eat due to messy tables and floor. Will definitely go back due to cheap drinks.

This place won't be my local anymore. I came in yesterday and left utterly disappointed and felt that I had just wasted my Friday lunch time. Firstly, the female barmaid working at the time (Friday 24th June) that served us was quite the definition of inhospitable - no customer service, rude and lacked simple manners. Nobody is going to feel invited if you can't even give a simple hello and a smile. When I received my pint, I mentioned the dirty glass and she gave the most unprofessional response as if hygiene doesn't exist. The food was average at best, decent for the price. However, is it normal to see the chef more than the front of house staff, as 2 cigarettes in 20 minutes (without washing hands afterwards bare in mind) is a bit poor and surely isn't allowed? Toilets could be maintained a bit better, it's not good having no toilet roll on deck. This place has had potential for years, but that takes good management, friendly staff, good staff working conditions and top hygiene. I only ever post positive (extra mile sort of kind) or alternatively, disappointing and unfortunately this one relates to the latter. All the best, but I won't be returning.

I was hoping the place would be better with new management, if anything it’s worse. the strawberry blonde bar maid had 2 cigarettes within 5 minutes of me and my family being there. The chef is constantly sat at the bar which put me off the food. Forced to sit outside due to eggy stink coming from the bar area. Honestly the dirtiest pub I’ve ever been to. Shame.

The place is disgusting, I went in for food yesterday from the limited menu spent 25.00 there I ordered a pint of diet coke which was out of the fridge it had just been put in cos it wasn't cold they didn't have any ice that was 3.00, secondly not so friendly staff when the food arrived I found a bone in my fishThe list goes on the place needs shutting down in my opinion I won't go there again and won't hesitate to tell people if they ask me what it's like

My girlfriend ordered a drink whilst we waited for my girlfriends best mate and her mates partner to arrive. My girlfriend had already ordered a coke when the barman came over to us both and said I "must order a drink whilst we wait otherwise he must ask me to leave", this is despite sitting on the same table as my girlfriend.As far as I'm concerned a pub or bar can't harrass customers for payment and drinks. The barman in photo below is the staff which is apparently being treating customers like dirt for years. I'm very surprised that 2 other customers walked out after us both due to how disgusted we was treat.I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Absolutely disgusting public house. They serve underage teens and allow them smoke cannabis outside the premises. The drinks are of poor quality and the staff are useless and extremely unhelpful. Toilets have no seats on them. The food is like slop, dirty glasses, feet stick to floors, holes in furniture. Why would anyone drink in this complete toilet of an excuse for a pub? Scrubbers!!!

Brilliant husband and wife team. Polite, welcoming and drinks ordered and paid at your own table. Covid restrictions adhered to. Clean, tidy and felt like I had known them years after my first visit.

Average pub. Several nice barmaids but one miserable one. Used to do food, but not anymore (except sandwiches). Used to always have a varied selection of 3 or 4 real ales but now lucky if they have more than 1, and they had none at all over Xmas! Definitely going downhill.
