Watersmeet National Trust Tea Rooms in Wakefield

Beautiful, just beautiful! Watersmeet is a must if you're visiting North Devon. Parking is on the road above the gorge, note, although Watersmeet is National Trust, the car park is not, so payment is required. This is a rugged place, good walking shoes are recommended. The walk from the car park is straightforward, although, a little steep. At the bottom you'll come to the tearoom, a good selection of drinks & lovely things to eat are available, there are also toilets here, plus plenty of seating. There are several walks around & along the gorge, route maps available in the tearoom. Whichever route you take, watch where you're putting your feet, some paths are high above the gorge, narrow& with no barriers. A truly breathtaking location.

What a fantastic place to start a walk along several rivers flowing into each other and eventually to the sea at Lynmouth. From Watersmeet to Lynmouth is just 2 miles (3 km). You have the option to go through the woods (right side of the river, if you follow the stream downwards) or the other river side. We went to Lynmouth through the woods, which was great,and back we went via the river side which was even more spectacular. At Watersmeet you can also climb uostream for the waterfall view. We want to do that another time; it is just a quarter mile, but we had other plans.

Beautifully situated alongside the river in this picturesque gorge. It was so peaceful to sit in the garden and watch the local birdlife tucking in to any crumbs they spotted on the picnic tables.

Beautiful location with lots of picturesque walks amongst amazing countryside, easily walkable from the local towns too.The cafe makes a great rest stop with a good selection of food and drinks and a lovely outdoor seating area.Totally recommend a visit!

One of the hidden gems in North Devon!Down a zigzag forest path, to a beautiful river scene, nestled in the green valley and there you’ll find Watersmeet.A stunning location for a cream tea

400 m steep but manageable path way down, not very hard , so can be done. Worth visiting, the nature here is great. I suggest visiting after closing hours because that way you might be there alone and enjoy the nature in peace. Parking is paid for national trust members too and costs £1 per hour

Absolutely stunning - no other words to describe it. Beautiful walking - but quite challenging, with steep inclines, steps and drops in places - stout walking boots a must, and some caution too. But well worth it too see masses of wildflowers, Herons and the most picture perfect photo opportunities.Great NT cafe on site too.

It is owned by the National Trust, and it is free to visit by everyone. It is in a beautiful setting in Exmoor. It is a lovely walk down a track to the house which is situated next the river. It's a pretty place to sit and enjoy a cream tea. There are plenty of walks around the area too. Parking at the top is not NT and is a pay and display.

Love this place, lots of different walks and the river changes so much with the seasons. We walked up over the hill to Contisbury, along the coast path to Lynton and back along the river to Watersmeet. It was a beautiful day.

Plenty of car parking at the Watersmeet Car Park. I bought a 4 day parking pass for £13.50 which includes most of the car parks in Lynmouth and Lynton as well as Watersmeet. Watersmeet House is a National Trust cafe with a large grassy enclosure at the front where you can enjoy your refreshments. I walked along the East Lyn Valley to Hillsford Bridge then ascended to the top of the valley. Footpaths were in excellent condition, regular footpath signs that were clear and unambiguous. Fantastic views over the wooded valley and out to sea. The route back from Lynmouth to Watersmeet through the woods and by the river was a nice gentle end to the walk.
