We have just returned from a lunchtime visit to this lovely dog friendly pub after a lovely walk along Naburn Lock.We were made to feel extremely welcome by Sally who was polite, professional and very helpful. So friendly! Our young dog is still getting used to going into public places and Sally was fabulous even bringing fresh water over for our dog.The pub has a selection of real ales and draught lagers etc. the food was excellent. We had a chilli beef, jalapeños and Brie pizza and I had a Stilton burger with real chips and a side of stacked onion rings that were the best ie ever had.Highly recommend and we will be back

Been visiting this pub for awhile now. Food excellent and staff really helpful and professional in there approach. I have found sally who is behind the bar really welcoming and professional.Unfortunately and sadly i have now stopped going into the Blacksmiths. One of the bar staff called Audrey took a personnel dislike to me and used her position as the sole person in charge of the bar to be vindictive and to refuse to serve me on two occasions even though i was not being offensive in anyway to anyone. She also was talking about me behind my back, even though she did not know me.On one occasion she asked if i was driving, i said no, she then said she would report me to the police. For what? I left the pub and never went back. This person should not have a public facing role. I am not the only person she has offended with her disgraceful behaviour. The rest of the staff are really nice and the first part of the review stands.

Absolutely 💯 best Carvery we have eaten in a long time, last minute call to the pub on a Sunday and we had missed their last food service but were more than happy to still allow us to eat knowing we would be late getting there! Fantastic value for money, great portion size and the Roast beef amazing meltedb

Visited twice. Must admit that first impression from the outside was a place that needed a bit of TLC. However, a very welcoming place - especially the licensee. The food we had was very good, a better veggie pizza than I've had in some pizza joints.

Staff very friendly and welcoming and the pub is a lovely looking traditional affair inside and out. Toilets look like they've been there forever but were clean and comical (if you know, you know!). We'd been before a couple of years ago and had a great meal so we had high hopes. However our meal didn't meet our expectations. Not offensively terrible or inedible (although I didn't eat much of mine), just not what we'd hoped. We had fish goujon sandwich each priced at just over £9 with a side of onion rings at £4. So not unreasonably priced, but certainly not at the cheaper end of the market. The fish was mushy wet and everything tasted of old oil. I hope it was just a one off and perhaps we'll try again sometime in the future. It's a hard time for pubs and I hope this one makes it.

My husband and I ate here this evening and the food was to die for. Presented so well, perfect portion sizes and very well priced as well. We were looked after by a lovely lady in a black cardigan, we didn’t catch her name but she so was upbeat, attentive and friendly. Thank you for a lovely time spent at your pub. If we are ever in York again we will definitely be returning!Just to add all staff were lovely also.
