Byron High Ousegate in York

I went here last night for a lovely afternoon meal with my girlfriend on our holiday, the food was lovely to start with but 3 hours later I started to feel ill in my stomach and shakey, a few more hours later my girlfriend is vomiting up what she had eaten. The food tastes good to start with but in this case something is obviously going wrong in the kitchen. They have Fantastic front of house staff and brilliant service.

Bad experience here. Manager who greeted us was friendly enough, we were directed to a table and then the restaurant phone rang. Instead of serving us he picked up the phone and started walking around the restaurant talking on it. We hadn't even been provided a menu at this point.About 5 minutes later a female served us, 'sorry I didn't realise you were sitting there' was her first greeting. We ordered some nachos to start, a beef burger and a chicken burger, a beer and a diet coke. A few minutes later, sorry we don't have any nachos, the breaded chicken is out of stock (so you can have grilled unbreaded chicken) and here's your full fat coke and beer.It then took me another 3 minutes to get the attention of the waitress to say we had the wrong drink!! I think she was more interested in flirting with the table of blokes sitting behind us.Burgers eventually came and they were mediocre at best, all the staff that were clearly finishing up a shift were served before us, on the table next to us.Byron used to be the place to go for burgers but it's sadly not what it used to be. A real downer at the end of our wonderful visit to York.

Lovely place for dinner. The staff are s very nice and friendly, portions are decent. If you’re not super hungry, I recommend the Mac and cheese starter. The lemon tart is delicious too! Try to spot all the little cows hiding on the vents

Nice rustic restaurant with modern vibe. Portions aren't very big for the money but food was of good quality. Some interesting items on the menu and the vegan milkshake and ice cream was a nice touch as I am lactose intolerant!

I'm not usually a burger eater but I've just had the best burger ever at Byron. Great service and real food. Highly recommend.

Very nice dinner! Staff was great and food was delicious. Not a long wait to be seated or served. My son-in-law, who is a bit picky, loved the burgers. We'll definitely be back again!

I was surprised , the place doesn't look much, but wow best burger I've tasted in years, but not just that the fries and bbq sauce was spot on too and I never usually eat fries but here they got it to a t! I definitely recommend here for a phenomenal burger in my eyes.

Really good Byron’s. Burgers were as juicy as they come. Halloumi fries and chicken wings were also on point.

Hands down the best Halloumi fries I've ever had. The service is brilliant, prices are very reasonable for the quality of food. Also there's a hidden bull to find

Great food for a fair price. Loved the hidden bull on top of the vent duct. Only criticism is toilet was not very clean. Had a chicken burger which was very flavorful best I have had at a burger place so far Staff were okay
