It really doesn't get better than this! Not only is it lovely inside and out, it's the actual family home of Guy Fawkes. The lounge area off the pub looks as if Guy and family could walk in any moment, it's so authentic. The restaurant too has had the same treatment and really feels as if you're back in time. The food was delicious! I had the best steak and ale pie ever. The pastry was perfectly crisp and beautifully shaped, the meat was tender and flavoursome, gravy dark and rich served with perfect mash. My husband's sausages and mash were absolutely historical. I'm not a fan of bangers but these really were the best, same mash and gravy. The service was so lovely. We had 3 young men waiting on us and they were all great. We look forward to going back!

Such a shame to have to give three stars but it's purely due to the mix up of our order. Once we finally got our food it was delicious. The waitress was very apologetic and fixed the issues promptly. Just unfortunate that tonight we had to have the mix ups.The pub is very unique and lovely inside, felt very very historic

Just fantastic. Beautiful, big 4-poster bedroom at front of building, with incredible views of York Minster and High Petergate. I stay here when I want to feel like a queen! Historic and romantic - transport yourself back in time. If you love York, you'll love this place.

Highly recommended! A beautiful, atmospheric pub in the centre of York. We visited on a very wet Wednesday in February with our little dog and received such a warm and friendly welcome. We ate burger and chips, if Guy Fawkes recommend it then it must be good right?! 😉 The staff and chef took the time to make our dog most welcome and cooked him his own sausages . We sat under cover in the garden with the snuggly fur blankets and heaters , it was lovely and very comfortable. We’ll definitely be back ~ thanks so much !

If you are looking to stay in York we’d suggest when it comes to accommodation you find somewhere else. We paid over the odds to stay in the suite and for the price was massively disappointed. Our main issue was housekeeping, there was none. No fresh towels supplied, toiletries not provided and used mini bottles of cheap shampoo and conditioner.Cleaning was poor. Deceased flies on the windowsill, dust and bedding had marks. We paid high end prices thinking we’d get luxury accommodation, what we received was budget and 3 star level care and attention. Can find better in the city, with higher standards and less for the cost. Seems Guy Fawkes overprice rooms due to the name and location.

I had the Guy Fawkwes Steak Pie with mash potatoes and gravy and pearl onions for dinner. It was delicious, but very hearty and filling (I couldn't finish it). I couldn't resist trying the sticky toffee pudding with creme as dessert, even though I was stuffed. This is probably the sweetest dessert on the menu but had a fantastic flavor. My server, Maddie, was very helpful and kind. I am a solo traveler and asked if I could be in prime people watching location, and I was obliged to an alcove with a beautiful outdoor seating area.**If you are an American like me who hasn't found a currency exchange yet, please advise your server to add the tip before you run the card. They don't have the little "add 20%" buttons when you run your card, and you can't add tip after.**

After walking around a very cold York, a nice warm pub and meal would have been great. However we were left disappointed. We turned up and the bar staff were more interested in having a chat than serving and the room in which we sat was freezing cold at 3pm 😳... Turn up the thermostat please, as your windows are right draughty.... we had the sausages and mash and the sausages were cheap with hard skins... For like 20p more a sausage, you can get proper butchers shop ones.. just lazy and more interested in having a chat.

Really nice warm atmosphere and setting, with good staff. Cracking Sunday roast at a really affordable price. Only issue is the roast potatoes could have been better. But otherwise faultless and would come back again.

We stayed here last month having stayed previously way back in 2017. We had very fond and lovely memories of the last time we stayed but unfortunately this time around it wasn’t the case.Standards have dramatically slipped evidently judging by the poor level of customer service from staff to the complete disregard and attention to detail of the housekeeping. It was like visiting a completely different establishment than the one we highly remembered on our first ever stay.Truth be told this heavily falls upon the HRH group and the management that runs the Guy Fawkes inn. The prices are extortionate to say the least but you pay over the odds for a an expected better level of service anywhere else. Though a 4 * star we would give it a 3. Cleaning was poor, furniture outdated and even the simplest of basics such as fresh towels were not provided. We’ve seen replies by the manager on trip advisor and sadly these were the exact same comments made way back in 2017 about updating things such as cleaning and updating things or false promises of they plan to renovate the rooms, it clearly is a way to fob off visitors. If you’re unhappy they don’t resolve the issues just ignore them.

We had room 11, in the back part of the old property. It seemed a little strange to be in a room directly next to a back eating area, but it was not a problem at all. It was a great spacious comfortable room with lots of character. The staff were all incredibly friendly. We had medication for my girlfriend that needs to stay refrigerated, they put it in the kitchen fridge no problem. We checked out and returned for lunch for the steak pie. It was so good, I cut in to it and saw god. It was definitely, and always will be worth the made-to-order wait time. I would absolutely come back for room 11, and stay here again and again!
