Indian Kitchen in York

We visited 29states by chance during our recent visit to York. Our day in the lovely city of York was made even more memorable with our experience here. We were a big group with family visiting from California. Great service and ambience right across Clifford’s tower. What nailed it for me is the Lamb biriyani. No surprise, I am an avid biriyani lover but having visited many parts of India and tried this awesome dish, I would say the chef at 29states is high up there when it came to the flavour and quality. The lamb just melted in your mouth and the blend of flavours just sparkles across the palate. I ordered another one just as I was eating my first plate. And don’t forget the IPA which is an excellent combo. Now I have to think for a second before I visit York, am I doing it for the lovely City or the food at 29states.

One of the best Indian food in the City of York, absolutely amazing. It beats most of the good Indian Restraunts from London.Right next to Castle Tower and close to river Ouse, this is a must go if you like Indian food.We had Chicken Lahori, Paneer Khurchan, Kakori Kebabs and few other items. They did pretty well with the breads and basmati rice too. Getting good food after a long day of touring York is a bonus. Must go!

By far the best indian in York and some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Mixed veggie starter platter was amazing, lamb and chicken main course, meat cooked to perfection and the garlic and coriander naan was exceptional. Welcoming and attentive staff, excellent service and reasonably priced for the quality of food. Will definitely return 🌟

Excellent food and service.Probably one of the best in UK.Extremely warm and hospitable staff, enjoyed the whole experience.It was my second visit after 5yrs, it has only improved since my last visit.The only issue which I saw was around the cleanliness of the restroom and wash area. This should be looked into especially with the times that we live in.

Very nice food serves here. I‘ve been given student discount and the manager gives me 1 pound discount in extra（I only paid 23.15 for my 26.95 bill because that is all the cash I got.）He could ask me to pay by cash but he didn’t. I really appreciate that. I will definitely recommend this restaurant and I will definitely come back in future!

Came here with my husband and son. Great food, nice and clean with very good service too. I would definitely recommend, we don't live in York but if we come back we'll definitely come here again. Opposite Clifford's Tower, so it is in a great location too.

Was on the edge about the quality based on reviews but this restaurant is an absolute gem!!Top marks to the chef and the staff. We requested to make it a bit spicy and they made it legit Indian spicy and flavorful food.Will definitely visit again whenever in York.

Without doubt the best Indian restaurant in York. The food is fresh and each dish has an individual taste. The service is relaxed, professional yet friendly. The chef even came out to ask us and others how their meal was. I will definitely be back!

Wow! I think it could possibly be the best Indian food I have had in 40 years. Seriously. If your visiting York, just book here. We will be back, hopefully soon.

Absolutely love this restaurant. Exceptionally tasty food and friendly staff. Have been here twice now with a total of 5 mains and 4 starters and all were cooked beautifully. I cannot emphasis enough how flavourful the curries are. With the Groupon or Tastecard discount it makes it very affordable which is the reason we went initially. Would definitely recommend.
