We dined in the winter igloos for our valentines dinner and it was BEAUTIFUL! The winter igloos in their back garden are one of a kind - so cozy and warm with fan heaters and small blankets yet being able to still be outside and have the best of the both. Me and my husband loved the place and hope they would be available next time we visited York. The food was really nice and the staff were lovely - so friendly and accommodating! This place is a hidden gem! Definitely recommended.

The accommodation was first class. We stayed for 2 nights. The breakfast however was poor. It comprised of 1 hash brown, 1 sausage, a small pot of beans, half a tomato, 1 portabello mushroom and two eggs with toast. The second morning the server forgot the toast and when it arrived the remainder of the breakfast was cold. We weren't offered fruit juice on the second morning and when we did, having asked, it was clearly from concentrate. Not what we expected for £12.50 each.

Been a couple of times here, visited this weekend, and was let down. Got told we could sit in the garden as the bar area was full, but the garden was full of prebooked igloos and only 2 free tables. 2 Couples then joined and asked to sit at our table because there was no room, cramped and awkward!

From the moment you walk through the gate and round the corner to see the sign for the Lamb & Lion, you know you're in for a treat. Just steps away from the old wall that wraps around much of York, the entrance is just as enchanting as the buildings that line the old roads of the town. The inside is dark and cozy with tables and chairs handsomely placed in the old rooms for guests eating at the restaurant. The building is old, so be forewarned that some stairs are involved in entering and making your way to the rooms. The hotel was kind enough to help take out luggage to the top floor where our room was located. The old creaky staircase adds to the timeless feel of York and the hotel. The room was just what we wanted and again embodied the feel of the city. The bed was comfortable and the shower was warm, just what was needed on a chilly December day. The room size was to be expected for an older building, and was no bigger or smaller than we reckoned it would be.Aside from the charming entrance, dining area, and room, the real gem of the Lamb and Lion is the back patio, with views of York Minster. Make sure to step outside and take in this amazing space.Should I make it back to York and fancy a stay in the old part of the city, you best believe I will head to the Lamb & Lion. Just off a main road, it as easy to access with rolling luggage and puts you in a great location for exploring the city.

Not good value for money. The room walls and window were very thin. This meant that noise easily travelled into the room, causing our sleep to be constantly disturbed. On the plus side, the staff were helpful, the room was clean and the location was good. The place has lots of potential but needs better noise insulation for this to be realised.

A lovely hotel very tastefully decorated. The room was beautiful with excellent facilities. Very good breakfast and a lovely bar for a swift drink before exploring the wonderful city of York!

We had an amazing meal there after being advised by Alex whilst at our hotel. We sat outdoors in a heated igloo, served by Darren who was incredibly friendly and courteous, the food was freshly made and was stunning and the prices were very reasonable, will definitely be returning.

A warm welcome from the staff. Beautiful hotel, old and dark, just how I like it. The room is beautifully decorated and is very clean. The only fault is the pillows, one is not enough and two was too much but I'm fussy when it comes to pillows. Not bad sleep it was very quiet. Nice under floor heating for the bathroom. The vegan breakfast was lovely and the staff were very helpful. I will definitely be back. Thankyou

Food range poor and very sad the best beer garden in York had been ruined by cheap plastic bubbles placed out in the secret garden. What were you thinking money above style? In my eyes your USP was those two things that made me drive there and recommend you in my home town. The garden and unique style was y ouewhatm

A quaint pub with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Overnight stay featured a very comfy bed and a superb cooked breakfast. On the downside the shower wasn't up to much and the room was fairly small - when factoring in the room price. Of course in the lead up to Christmas- and the pubs location- this is the price you have to pay. Outside it was noisy into the early hours which is something to be aware of.
