Absolutely horrible the chips wasn’t even chips more like batter the curry sauce is extremely thick like they have microwaved the sauce and the salt and pepper king prawns was stone cold, when I phoned they was not nice and put the phone down on me!! I wouldn’t recommend ever ordering from here

Edited review. After many great meals from Maks the latest offerings were extremely disappointing. The Peking Capital spare 'ribs' were just chopped up bits of unidentifiable gristle, in a sickly sauce. Very little meat. The beef udon noodles had a very weird taste that I can't quite put my finger on, but it wasn't pleasant. The beef was tough. I'm sad, because I usually enjoy the food, but on this occasion it was over £15 wasted as the food went in the bin. I will give them another chance, but I'll stick with the Anglised options off the menu in future.Did exactly that and the sweet and sour pork in battered balls with egg fried rice was phenomenal. It's a bit of a lottery, but when they are on form the food is great.

An absolute mess. Pork fried rice is burnt. Chips are like wood and the curry and sweet and sour sauce was congealed. Never again.

It saddens me to have to leave a negative review for Maks, as we were loyal customers; however as an allergy sufferer, I feel it is important to highlight to others in my position the negligence and inadequacy with which this establishment handles food allergens and cross contamination.Yesterday evening, my boyfriend ordered from Maks and got my usual dish. He called to inform Maks that I have a tree nut and peanut allergy, and to confirm that my food (bean curd in black bean sauce and chips) was nut free. They confirmed no nuts are used in the preparation of these dishes, but that there may be a possibility of traces of nuts. We confirmed that this was okay, because I only react to the presence of nuts in the meal itself, and not to traces. When the food arrived, I was able to eat some of my meal, however in one of my mouthfuls there was a large crunchy item which I know to be unusual, as I have ordered this dish before. I spat it out, but not before accidentally swallowing a small amount, and looked at what it was - a whole cashew nut. I have included the picture below for reference. This was particularly alarming as this dish has never contained cashews as long as I've ordered it, not to mention that my boyfriend called to check. I also want to emphasise that this was not a trace of ground up nut, or nut oil - this was a whole cashew nut within the food, and cannot reasonably be classified as "traces of nuts". We threw the rest of the meal out.I had to take a large dose of antihistamines and our Easter weekend ended with a lot of stress, as I felt the onset of the reaction quite quickly, and my boyfriend had to prepare for the possibility that I would have a life threatening anaphylactic shock. Thankfully I did not have to be administered my EpiPen, but if I had not noticed and eaten the whole nut it is not unlikely that I'd be in hospital right now.My boyfriend and I have both tried to call Maks on multiple occasions today and yesterday; their website says they're shut, but we've been able to get through the phone line on other occasions at the same date and times that we called.I find it astounding that in this day and age, where food hygiene and allergen awareness is paramount in restaurants, that such carelessness should be taken with preparation of a meal for someone with an allergy. I am extremely lucky that I had people around me that were able to recognise the signs, and that I am very experienced with knowing the taste and texture of nuts, which allowed us all to act quickly in potentially saving my life.I do feel it is my duty to make other people aware, and I will say this very clearly - if you have any allergies at all, DO NOT ORDER FOOD FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT. They have proven that their knowledge of allergens and safe food preparation is sub-par and I do genuinely fear that such apathy could lead to a fatal reaction from an unsuspecting customer.

Awful! Do not order from here, bland and oily. The meat is chewy, food arrived cold and we have left nearly everything. The only thing that was slightly ok was the ribs and rice. So disappointed, what a waste of money!

Have tried many a York takeaway but Maks is hard to beat. The spicy house special is awesome and can’t get enough of the pancake rolls. Keep it up guys!

Delivery never arrived and restaurant said it wasn’t their problem. Driver delivered to a group of boys when order name was a girls name and we are a group of girls who spoke to him on the phone. Restaurant said they would speak to him. He told them he had delivered correctly. Now sat here 3 hours later with no food and restaurant refusing to sort it out. Have complained with Just Eat about order and rudeness of staff.

Always served quick when collecting (cash only) and great portion sizes. Quality of food is ok but only tried a couple of meals. Unfortunately they got my order wrong the other day but I think this was a slight misunderstanding/communication error and they rectified it straight away.

Our old Chinese takeaway closed and we tried several before settling on Mak's. We keep coming back as the food is tasty and delivery has always been fast. They were recommended to us and I would also highly recommend.

Great food and extremely reasonable prices considering the portions. Two people could easily share on portion of you opt for the large option. Crispy beef was tasty, chips usual Chinese style. Curry was good.
