The hotel was well situated and in close proximity to York via bus (30 minute trip). The rooms were comfortable although overall the decor and furnishings were showing their age. However presented all the usual amenities you would expect. The Spa was a welcome bonus offering pool, sauna, aromatherapy room, salt room & gym this was included within the room rate however treatments were separate.Breakfast was brilliant with plenty of choice and availability from the buffet (Sometimes table service depending upon guest numbers). The ingredients were of a high quality and not some cheap afterthought. Having the bar onsite was handy for those wishing to have a drink or two before heading to bed.All in all, I enjoyed my stay here and would happily stay again. My only negative would be that I found the reception staff seemed to ignore you unless you were specifically enquiring about something. There was no good morning did you sleep well or any of the other chit chat you may expect eg: any plans for the day? I'd recommend etc etc.

Lovely building and grounds. Our room was very dated and though large felt poorly thought out.It is clear that the hotel has a lot of very inexperienced, young, staff and they need much more training and supervision.Outside areas were piled high with used glasses. Not pleasant to sit there.Breakfast was excellent but again service lacks finesse.

3rd time here & it won't be the last! Extremely helpful & friendly staff, comfortable bed & a beautiful setting. Very reasonably priced too, especially considering the facilities. The food is also far, far better than you'd get at a "chain" hotel - particular mention of the breakfast 👌👌!Only thing I would wish for is for some "Dog Friendly" rooms - that would make The Parsonage perfect!

Went for a spa dayFacilities were lovely, great swimming pool with jacuzzis and steam rooms. Had a facial and scalp massage. Treatment was nice but really a bit brief for the £64 that it cost. Had lunch in the Fat Abbot after which was just delicious! All in all a good experience

Great stay. Hotel room isn't the nicest. Quite old and shabby. Staff are really helpful. Amazing breakfast options, would strongly recommend. Excellent spa facilities.

We expected a evening arrival, so called in advance to check when the restaurant was open until, we were told the kitchen closes at 9pm. We arrived at 8.30pm and decided to get food before checking in. We were then told the kitchen was already closed, I explained we had called to check and was told 9pm. The restaurant team did accommodate us, but it did appear it was an inconvenience! However the food was very good. We checked in and our bedrooms were in the old part of the building and they were a bit shabby, not similar to the photos on Google or the hotels website. The rooms were very warm but the small windows did open to get some fresh air. The bathroom looked good with a shower and bath. This looked recently renovated. The bed was very comfy and nice pillows, the bed was more of a 3/4 and not a double. Breakfast was excellent, good selection of food and drinks, all three waitress were friendly, chatty and helpful. We visited the spa which was very good, steam room, jacuzzi, swimming pool and sauna, a lovely way to spend two or three hours. We ate again at the Fat Abbott restaurant, earlier than the previous evening and again food was once again very good. All in all it was a pleasant stay, would I stay again "Yes" but would request a room in the newer block. The staff are lovely, the building is lovely, but the bedrooms do need a makeover.

Went for a spa day. It was amazing. The staff were lovely, the lunch was great. The spa was peaceful, relaxing, clean. Only thing I thought would be better was to have lunch in the spa lounge rather than going to the hotel with the spa dressing gown on.

Just back from a lovely relaxing spa break at this hotel. The afternoon tea was possibly the best I’ve had with home made scones, cake and macaroons and a lovely choice is sandwich’s, the staff were friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble and the rooms were well presented. I would recommend a stay here.

I've stayed many times here and look forward to spending time relaxing and unwinding however on ringing to book recently was told I'd have to pay a £50 supplement as I would be on my own. This hasn't happened before I'm sure and I feel like I'm being discriminated against for booking as a single person.Your deals are not deals with a £50 supplement on top! Needless to say I didn't book this time and I'm not sure I'll be back at this rate. So sad. 😔

We celebrated our wedding here back in October and haven't stopped talking about this venue and the staff since. It's true what they say, a venue really does make or break a wedding. From the first email to the next day when we was checking out we was treated with care and respect and nothing was too much trouble . Louise helped us throughout our whole wedding planning, answering questions at god knows what time and putting us at ease throughout the whole of Lockdown. The venue is stunning, and since the recent renovation the reception room was perfect for our day.Throughout our day we was cared for by Michail (apologies if this is spelt incorrectly) and it ran perfectly, his kindness and professionalism showed all day, he gave a gentle guiding hand every step of the way. We could feel the excitement and happiness that all the staff felt for us, which we will be forever grateful for.
