The most awful carrot cake, to take away. Had we not have walked back to the car before consuming, I'd have taken it back! Two pieces of dry cake for £9.00, must have been in the window for days!!

Went for a birthday tea with friends, lovely staff and the cakes were amazing!

Recieved a voucher for a cream tea, honestly don't even bother. 2 and a half slices of bread, scones which were as hard as a brick and cakes which look and tasted like they were bought from frozen section in Iceland.First time customer and never will I go back.Go to Morrisons for a cream tea for a tenner, much better value.

Wheelchair accessible entrance, door is heavy. Had a 10 minute wait due to upstairs being closed and reserved tables, server was quick to explain the wait time. Two front of house servers, polite and friendly, in-between customers they sanitised the tables. From my table I was able to see behind the counter. The young lady in-between making drinks cleared down and put the milk back into the fridge. My drink and cake arrived quickly. The carrot cake was lovely full with nuts and a nice flavoured frosting, the hot chocolate was in my opinion between a milk and a dark chocolate, giving it a strong flavour. The temperature was cold outside and did not feel too warm inside.

Used to be good breakfast place but has definitely slipped. Food was mediocre tasting and little attention paid to how it looked on the plate. Coffee is below the standard you can get elsewhere in York for cheaper. However, it was nice to be able to walk in without booking in advance and cakes are still excellent!

Lovely friendly service, but food overpriced and very ordinary. The cakes in the window look lovely if not a bit pricey, the menu looks fine but a little pricey, and when the food comes, oh how standard, portion controlled and completely average it is. I'm sure you can do better - I just feel sorry for the staff who are far better than the place itself. I've attached a photo - guess how much for 2 slices of bread, with a bit of spread, a cooked tomato, mushroom, beans & loads of watercress?

Wonderful! We had afternoon tea for two, which was amazing and very good value for money unlike other places for afternoon tea. Seating up stairs was lovely, lots of seats but not squashed together. Staff were wonderful very friendly and couldn't do enough for you.I would recommend you book, especially if going on a busy day. We went on a Saturday and booked and glad we did as there was a queue. You can also buy to take away too and is a separate queue. The cakes to take away were very good value for money too

Excellent table service, cakes were nice. Definitely worth a visit. Around £7 per head for cake and drink. Can be busy so expect a small wait.
