The Black Horse Inn in York

Lovely pub with great customer service from James, Gina, Jess & Abigail. Really make us feel very welcome time and time again. Food and prices are very good so would recommend. However, we must agree with previous comments in respect of Mike at the bar. We didn’t get a real sense of customer service in his approach and he did for us give us a real sense of not being welcoming compared to the other members noted. Just feel he didn’t measure up to the rest of the wonderful staff and would need to improve on his approach.

Great live band last night at black horse. Good atmosphere. Did feel the downside was the barman with tattoos. Customer service was poor, struggled to pour drinks into the glasses and didn’t come over like he knew what he was doing. No pleasantries at all.

Had a great band on last night, called the mix. Landlord was welcoming and happy to chat. Good atmosphere. The chap serving behind the bar with tattoos wasn't a barrel of laughs, seemed to have a bit of an attitude, didn't seem to smile once and his bartending skills weren't the best. seemed to keep spilling drink everywhere than getting it in the actual glass. Might need some training and a little work to improve.

We were in last night. Nice atmospheric pub with a good band performing. Only downside was the barman serving with tattoos, customer service was nothing short of awful. No smile, no please or thank you, no eye contact or pleasantries. Serving skills weren’t good, drink ended up more out the glass than in. Seems he needs assistance on basic bartending skills and customer service

Good live music tonight came with the family. Few good staff on serving. The short dumpy bloke with tattoos could cheer up, whilst taking my order at the bar his face was one that would put you off your pint.

Absolutely beautiful piece of fish eaten here at lunchtime. Excellent menu with great prices and quietly efficient staff. Change of management so suggest if you had visited previously and been disappointed then you give it another go.

Standard pub, good drinks on offer. Owners were friendly james especially. Did feel Michael the barman on shift could have been much more professional and approachable. Didn’t particularly give off a helpful or welcoming approach whilst serving waiting customers. It was relatively quiet and there were a few in our group but he came off unpleasant and dismissive to all of us-from when we arrived to when we were leaving. Didn’t make for a comfortable visit.

The young staff were fantastic no complaints at all, but Mike at the bar could very much improve in his hospitality abilities or lack there of. Not the most affable of bartenders we have come across, a smile wouldn’t go a miss and his limited communication doesn’t go unnoticed either. Didn’t seem to make any effort with waiting customers at the bar and he seemed less than interested in doing his job to the best of his other counterparts level.

Booked a 60th birthday party for 15 people. Everyone commented on how good the food was, it came at the same time for all.Drinks choice was really good and varied. Staff were great and accommodating.James has a fantastic well run pub and all credit to him and the staff for making our evening an occasion to remember.Keep up the good work

What a fantastic bar and restaurant. We booked the Black Horse for a 60th party. The landlord, James and all the staff were amazing. The food was very good with a good choice of starters mains and desserts. Although there were 15 of us all the food was served hot and came out at the same time.We would highly recommend the pub to anyone thinking of a large or small gathering.
