Visited recently with my dad, sat in a sunny window drinking a cold beer with a club sandwich, absolutely delicious. The staff were really welcoming, so much so we stayed for another pint! One staff member even went to the trouble of opening the downstairs toilet to save my dad a trip upstairs, thank you!

Went meet up with my daughter and husband had a lovely meal and a few drinks. Food was delicious and the staff willing to help. I would recommend this place to others.

Went in with the idea of having Sunday lunch but at £18 a head quickly changed our minds. The lager was tasty though.

Ohhhh god.... I hate spending good money when you get cocky, miserable staff, who make you feel unwelcome, and you wish you'd never come in here, when you could have gone somewhere really nice instead, and had a brilliant fun time😆 instead of a sh💩💩💩💩 time with rude and unpleasant bar service 😒.

Sadly, I feel like this place has gone downhill. I come here every year with my family and the standard of food and service were noticeably not as good as they used to be. The food was mediocre. I had a lamb shank 'cottage pie' type meal which literally was a few bits of lamb with a shank bone stuck into the side of the dish and it was obviously microwaved. We had booked a table and we were all looking forward to a Sunday lunch which they had ran out of(within 1 and a half hours of opening service)which didn't set us off to a good start. I understand they are busy at this time of year but if you want to stay busy, up your food standards.I am adding on to this review as the manager has kindly replied, which I appreciate. We were categorically told by 1.45pm that there was no meat left for Sunday lunch. I wanted to order the lamb shank and my family wanted beef(Sunday lunch) only then to receive, once ordered a 'lamb shank' cottage pie.🤷‍♀️Like I said previously, we have been coming here for years and I have always recommended it to friends and family but I just think the attention to detail was lacking on this visit. I have been in catering for 30+ years and what I have learned is that presentation is very important. I no doubt will be back but here's hoping it's a better experience. Best wishes.

We booked the cross keys for Sunday lunch having been in a couple of times for drinks and enjoyed it. There was a bit of a queue at the bar and only 2 bar staff one doing drinks and the other sorting food orders. The Sunday roast had a choice of two meats, lamb or beef, my wife chose lamb and I went with the beef, unfortunately they'd run out of lamb, also roast potatoes were an extra for £3 as was cauliflower cheese. The food when it came was lovely three thick slices of beef and a lovely large Yorkshire pudding, mash and veg, the meat cut very easily and was cooked just as I like it . I did think it was quite pricey at £15 but it was enjoyable and we would return the next time we're in York, there is a good selection of beers, lagers and ciders with quite a few hand pulled.

We went in on a Friday evening and for Saturday lunch and there was great service and a real buzz in the atmosphere. Food was fantastic, especially the chips. They had a good variety on tap too, with a local black sheep beer which was great! Would definitely recommend for lunch/dinner/evening drink! They were also very accommodating to our big fluffy dog, bringing him a bowl of water and giving him head pats!

Good range of cask ales, including guest beers, and all the usual wines and spirits. Modern and clean inside, TV's in most of the rooms. Food was good, timely and piping hot. Only downside was a refusal to change channels on one of the rooms, when there was only myself and the other half in there. Otherwise, a good experience with ordering via the Nicholson's app.
