The Golden Fleece in York

Staying here with my partner for a mini break to York. Absolutely loving the character and atmosphere of the place.. cosy, quirky rooms that I found to be quite beautiful. Lovely bath and shower and a comfy bed. If you like sterile, soul-less environments then this place is not for you. If you like charm, history, quirkiness and character then do treat yourself to a night or two here.. or at least pop in for a drink and/or food.. they have open mic and other music nights and events on in the eve. The staff all seemed very lovely and I loved the down to earth atmosphere. The ghostly history of The Fleece is present in some form or other everywhere you look, in every inch of the place.. it's great fun and I like the combo of the spooky history and atmospheric interior and the almost tongue in cheek vibe in which it's approached by the owners and staff. Had an odd experience or two during my stay so far.. but I won't elaborate.. you'd have to go and experience it yourself really.. 🙂🙂

Lovely little pub with cosy atmosphere, nice drinks and not bad food. Little beer garden for warmer weather. Full of character and ghost stories. We were actually introduced to it via a ghost bust tour and thought we'll go and see the ghost for our selves 👻

Many say it's the most haunted pub in York.. although we didn't see any spooks.. just alot of drunks.. us included. What a great atmosphere, we only popped in for 1, and ended up staying the night. Great little pub, and the young lads that played.. deserve a record deal..

The Hotel experience was good. Most haunted hotel in York. The room we had was called the Shambles and it was huge. Good atmosphere in the pub and lunch and evening meals were great too. Breakfast was poor. Burnt sausage and bacon and no mushrooms for me no veggie sausage for hubby and eggs were burnt and hard. The lad seemed lost in his role..no juice or milk and had to ask for tea and coffee.

My favourite pub in York, Theakstons Old Peculiar on tap might be a one of the reasons for it. Good pub, good atmosphere and live music. Has everything you expect in a pub

Oldest pub by all accounts. Go through to the back bar and you are greeted by the oldest person in there, sitting patiently at the bar with his dog. Service was great.

Great pub, been for many years although I must say their new menu and kitchen is not as good as previous. Feels more like a chain pub with the new food, the quality and portion size is no where near the home cooked food they used to produce and that is letting it down. Overall still a great pub but there are better if you wanting food

Very busy place. Great traditional pub. We had planned having a main meal here but it was so noisy with a stag do we just had a snack and moved on. Not the pubs fault so would definitely return to try again.

The most haunted pub in york, visited numerous times during the few days we spent in York this week.Tried the tonkoko stout we really enjoyed it.Unfortunately I didn’t see any ghosts but I would definitely like to stay in one of the rooms next time I visit.Brilliant pub friendly staff and good atmosphere.

This place is great! Got there quite early just to get a table because it’s usually busy but inside the place was really cool! They have the skull of an executed woman from the Middle Ages which is really cool too. I don’t know what the food is like since we didn’t eat but overall the pub is amazing!
