The Judge's Lodging Restaurant in York

Paid £27 per bottle of Prosecco but absolutely disgusted by the way the staff treated a stag do who were nothing but pure gentlemen, didn’t hear a sound from them but they were kicked out due to being too drunk but we didn’t hear a sound from them. We spoke to all of them and they were the loveliest men we could wish to meet. So so disappointed. Will not return

Too many tables crammed in. Despite booking we waited 15 minutes for a table. Once seated we were told there was a 40 minute wait for food. Ordered a bottle of wine for £23 but were told they couldn't "find " any wines priced less than £32. They refused to negotiate on this so we left. No good will, in fact the wine waiter was so offhand he bordered on rude. We won't be returning.

Food was delicious! Had the steak and ale pie with mash and veg...reasonable portion, cooked fresh and worth the wait. Not a large menu choice, but then I could see why...Drinks took a little time to come and tables were not set up in readiness. Have to book in advance as gets busy and you cannot just drop in. Venue decor....bright and spacious. Would definitely visit this venue again.

Clean and well maintained. Beautiful rooms and bathrooms. Food was high quality. Staff were faultless. Possibly the most fast and efficient service I've ever had at a hotel.

We have stayed at Judges Lodging a few times previously and always been pleased. This time was not very good. We were in Room 17 and were woken quite suddenly several times during the night by a huge crashing noise. This sounded like an avalanche of empty bottles being tipped into a a container. This happened several times including at 2.00 in the morning.Noises in the street cannot be helped but guests have a right to expect a peaceful night uninterrupted by loud and violent noises from the hotel itself.

This place was terrible, there is nothing positive I can say about it. The food was less than average and the place itself had no atmosphere and was very boring. But the worst thing was the service, you had to ask repeatedly to get any drinks and one of our party is still waiting for the Baileys she ordered, no cutlery brought for dessert and when we asked half the table got spoons while the rest had to wait as they had run out. I am sure there are much better places to eat and spend your money in York

We had the perfect stay here. The room was lovely and the bed was so comfortable. Very lovely place to stay and would definitely recommend. The staff were all very friendly and helpful

Great place to stay, very central to all the shops, restaurants, York Minster and the wall. Less than a 5 minute walk from the train station. Rooms are lovely and clean, fresh milk left outside your room if you want and breakfast was delicious with lots to choose from.Would highly recommend.

We have a fantastic lunch with the York Restaurant Week offer. The staff were friendly and attentive! We had a little booth like area which was cosy. The food was delicious and well presented. It came fairly quickly and pleased with the service! We will definitely be back again!

This was an off the cuff visit. Whilst looking at the menu on the railings our dog was pulling us in and the guy in the gate let us know that digs were very welcome ! Once seated, a water bowl appeared before we were seen to. We thought the prices were a little high, but the food was well worth it. A lovely place to sit out front and watch the world go by. I gather there's also a lovely garden to the rear with great seating areas. Well recommended, we'll be back !
