The Masons Arms in York

I don't know where to start. Our large group was greeted warmly by a lovely lady (I assume the manager) who led us to our table. The locals clearly were not happy to have strangers in their company and made this plainly clear. They were warned to leave us alone at least 4 times. It was so awful my teenage daughter started crying as she felt so uncomfortable there. The food was ok (pie and burgers) but it's a local place for local people so if you want to eat without being stared out, go elsewhere. I have never in my life had an experience like it. I felt more comfortable in the Bronx.

Reasonable for a quick drink if you're in the area. Miss the food though - we had the chicken wings and some were cold in the middle. The turkey roast was very basic, the only good bit was the yorkshire pudding which was appropriately great. Staff generally very friendly and lovely except one waitress who was not.

We recently stopped at The Masons Arms and it was great! The staff were incredibly friendly and happy to answer any questions, the room was a good size, clean and had plenty of provisions. The location is great, and I would happily stop there again for an overnight trip to York

The Vegan roast had raw vegetables in it. The Mediterranean tart was well cooked but it tasted more like a pizza. The ambience is nice.

Favourite pub in York. Friendly staff,proper pub and great food. Had the Mason burger the wife Shepard's pie, so full can't manage a sweet. Jealous as just seen the missus potion of apple pie and custard. Well worth a visit

Friendly welcoming staff and provided us with a lovely room to stay in! Great place to explore York from and would definitely recommend to anyone ! Didn’t eat here but next time we visit we will!

We visited The Masons Arms on a recent festive day trip to York and couldn’t have been more impressed with our experience there. This little old English pub steeped in history is the perfect place to escape the dreary British winter weather with its traditional decor and open fire creating a warm, welcoming and cosy atmosphere. The staff were really helpful, friendly and welcoming plus the food was absolutely fantastic with very generous portion sizes. The homemade steak and potato pie is a must try, as it’s one of the nicest we have ever tasted and also by far the biggest, but all three courses we had were absolutely delicious. It’s rather difficult to find proper pub grub like this anymore! Their three course winter menu is great value for money and with a wide range of dishes available we will certainly be back again the future and would definitely recommend giving this lovely little pub a try!

Staff was fantastic, even let me get an extra topping on my Mason Burger. Wife had the Shepard's Pie. Both were absolutely, mind-numbingly good. Price is super reasonable and the warm fire is a welcome benefit on a cold day. If you find yourself in York and you skip this place, then you weren't really ever in York.

Didn't eat here but food looked good so will try another time. Had Golden Pippin ale on which was good to see. Waitress service was nice to see too. Friendly staff.

I only came for the beer which was excellent. Very busy for food earlier but quietened down by 8pm. Appeared to be very well run. Visited 5 nights out of our 7 night holiday!
