The Rattle Owl in York

A delicious tasting menu which was well worth the visit, particularly with the wine pairings. I highly recommend having the menu blind. I also suggest both pairings to share and compare, as both were delicious, but in quite different ways, leading my partner and I to have different preferences as the menu went on. It was especially nice to see orange wines and a white Rioja on the menu, as we rarely see them in many restaurants.

Heard a lot of fantastic reviews for this place, however it didn’t live up to expectations. The food was okay but not great.

An absolute taste sensation! The service is nothing short of attentive and friendly and the blind food tasting menu offers an experience like no other! An incredibly talented chef! Would highly recommend!

A perfect Sunday Lunch. Beautiful food, great service and generous portions. The photos show it all but have to add that the flavours were great and loved the way staff explained dishes to you. Also liked the way they offered more "well done" versions of the meat (not an issue for us but table next to us appreciated it)

Had the tasting menu full 8 courses with the wine pairing. The food was excellent and the wine was nice but nothing special and certainly not worth the money. Service was also excellent. All together was a lovely night. However was not expecting them to keep my deposit of £30 and charge a extra £7.50 as a gratuity after tipping waiter £20 cash. This is not professional at all.

This restaurant deserves to be on the Michelin Guide immediately, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they received their first star in the coming year or two. Stunning 8 course tasting menu with wine pairing, full of creativity and locally sourced ingredients. The service quality, local source and creativity, and flavour pallets compares to all the Michelin starred restaurants I’ve been to in the UK. We had minor dietary restrictions and the servers and chefs took great care of us. The highlight of our stunning weekend to York. Thank you!

Had the tasting 'menu', which was very nice. The drinks pairings (only a few are red/white wines) are excellent and work very well with the food, making this a distinctive experience. Ridiculously, they don't tell you what you actually get to eat other than the announcement when they bring it to the table, just the drinks pairings and a suppliers list are printed (you might think you're missing something on the website, you're not).

Fantastic atmosphere and great customer service. They catered to our pescatarian diet with no issues. We opted for the 8 meal taster menu. All the dishes were unique, some more exceptional than others. Nothing was disappointing, though some dishes would have been perfect with a bit of tweaking. Overall, I was really glad we chose this place for our 12th anniversary.

Delicious Sunday lunch at the Rattle Owl. Service was good though a bit slow but that was probably due to the peak time rush.Food tasted amazing though I would say presented pretentiously.Lacked atmosphere as it was mostly silent with no ambient music until an hour in, or even the noise of other customers. Still a lovely building and location.

A warm welcome and fast & friendly service at this award winning restaurant. Small menu but very good selection and every dish we ordered was wonderfully presented and delicious. The restaurant was quiet and lacked atmosphere but we were grateful to secure a reservation and thank you to Alex & team. Prices are high but well worth it. We’ll be back
