Little bit of a weird layout but really gives that historic feel. The drinks here are cheap and music is great!

·

Friendly staff, lovely beer garden, great location. Ace sitting outside in the suntrap beer garden in summer, cosy sitting by the roaring fires in the winter. Great loyalty card scheme. Would recommend wholeheartedly

It'd be nice if I could come to a pub during its its listed opening times and find a door that isn't locked shut and a phone that gets answered, but maybe my standards are too high

·

Love the red lion. Staff couldn't be friendlier. Decent little menu of great pub grub that's freshly and quickly cooked.

·

Really, really, really good! Such professionally efficient staff, worked calmly under busy situation. Served everyone in good order even though there was a big group of rugby guys in. Good outside drinking area. Highly recommended.

·

One of yorks historic pubs which must be visited, large portions of food, great selection of ales, is one of yorks haunted pubs, great atmosphere.

·

Has been my favourite pub in York for years now. A decent selection of local cask ales and regular offerings. Cracking food and a comfy historic interior. When the weather's cold they always have a fire going. Always feels like home

We were recommended this pub, and whilst you can't help to feel the atmosphere from such an old building, the food was terrible. Not inedible, but the Steak pie seemed to be the sort you get at a cheap corner store, with what appeared to be mechanically recovered meat. The chips were OK. The staff we met were friendly and helpful.

Dropped in here for a swift one on the way home. Have been here before, a few years ago, and not much has changed apart from the barmaids being a little snootier than I remember. Not crowded as it was a Monday night and I got served quickly. One of the bars was busy with regulars but my bar was quiet. Toilets clean and accessible. All in all, an OK experience.

Lovely pub & friendly staff. Prices are a bit high but it’s worth it for a pleasant atmosphere & service. I did notice a few customers being rude to the staff but they handled it well & remained polite. That impressed me. Next time I’m gonna ask for a loyalty card as I will be going in a lot more often.
