The Slug and Lettuce in York

Popped in as it looked inviting, after downloading the app which was straight forward we ordered food, service, speed and value for money was all good.

I visited Slug and Lettuce Swinegate on Sunday with 12 other girls as part of my hen do for afternoon tea with cocktails. The food and cocktails were great but what really let the experience down was the extremely rude, unhelpful, stroppy, eye-rolling waitress who was serving us. The way she spoke to us was quite frankly disgusting and the management team should be made aware of this so that training in customer service (or just simple manners) can be provided to their staff. The whole experience was very disorganised, they had no idea how many sets of afternoon teas we should have been given, the table had not been set so we had to keep asking for basic things such as plates, knives and spoons etc. Everything we asked for seemed to be a huge inconvenience to our waitress as we were constantly met with eye rolls, huge sighs and just an all round disgusting attitude. Overall the food was lovely and there was plenty of it, but the waitress completely let the whole experience down. I would not recommend this venue to anyone and I wish we had booked elsewhere.

It was my granddaughter's birthday, a group of us were there to celebrate and the staff couldn't have been more helpful, efficient and friendly. Brought our granddaughter's cake out at just the right time and made sure everyone was comfortable including the baby in the family. Plus the food was delicious, everyone had something different and everyone was happy.

We booked a group bottomless brunch this weekend. It was amazing, it was made amazing by our waiter, a fab guy called Conner (if that's spelt right 🤣). This dude deserves recognition for customer service. We expected slow service for a "bottomless" brunch, but we were amazed thanks to this guy

Popped in for a cheeky lunch now that we feel more confident to reintegrate into society. Place was clean, not too busy and the food was good. Great value for money.

The food was delicious and the cocktail trees are amazing, however the service leaves a lot to be desired. We were sat down at a table we had booked and left without a menu to look at or anybody asking if we wanted any drinks. We had to go to the bar and order food and drinks ourselves, which if that’s the normal order of play at Slug & Lettuce then fine, but it would’ve been nice to know as most restaurants I’ve dined at have table service.

Grim. The sign of a good bar is no empty glasses and a bar that isn't soaking in beer. Toilets a disgrace. Decent cocktails however.

Cute location with super tasty food. I would recommend getting one of the sharing options - they even offer a vegan one! There's also a range of cocktails and there's a deal where you can buy 2 for the price of 1!

Good booking system.in place to ensure you can get a table, order on the app and drinks delivered to your table. All very civilised and much better than having to cram at the bar like before covid good atmosphere and music.
