The Wetherby Whaler in York

Very greasy and left a coating of grease on lips and mouth. Chips I found hard sharp and batter to well done. Fish wasn't bad. Had a lot better from other fish chip shops. Restaurant is totally different to the takeaway part fish chips in the restaurant are excellent.

Very traditional Fish and chips restaurant. Fish is haddock and it is MSC certified. The portions are big enough, and there are different size options. There are other food choices, including veggie, salads chicken breast, and good traditional desserts. Very efficient and nice waitress.

My first visit to The Wetherby Whaler tonight and I was throughly impressed!Menu a little pricey but portions and food quality is spot on for the prices charged.Can recommend the regular haddock meal and the whippy ice cream is also delicious!A big shout out to Debs the waitress who was really friendly and attentive and cared for each and every customer she was serving.Will definitely be back when I’m in the area!

Took mum for birthday senior citizen 3 course meal she was well happy with it. We all had different meals even a vegan one and all were excellent and so was service. Well worth a visit if fish and chips is your thing

Was recommended to come here by a friend. I simply had the best fish and chips I have ever had in my life. The chips were cooked to perfection. The batter on the haddock was immaculate. Firm and crispy and plenty of it. I also had a side of mushy peas which were tasty. Throw in an enormous pot of tea, with a hot water pot to refill and I was in hogs heaven. The service was friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, which was first class. Probably the best £50 I’ve ever spent. I would highly recommend a visit. I also want them to expand and build a restaurant in Slough!

A beautiful Fish and Chip dinner, would highly recommend.Came with bread and butter for butty's!And a pot of Yorkshire Tea!Great attentive service, followed by clsssic desserts.Good food, well portioned, good serviceAbsolutely coming back here again!!

Fantastic customer service and fabulous fish and chips.Our first visit and will not be our last.We were on a 4 day break from Essex so a shame we do not have a local restaurant.Staff were very attentive and polite.We did not have to wait at any time from when our order was taken to when the plates were cleared and we ordered our dessert.Best fish and chips we have had for sometime.Plenty of parking and level access.Inside is very clean and the tables are nicely spaced out.No loud music too which made for a relaxing meal.

Lunch today was marvellous! The place was busy and there was a queue to get in but only about 15-20 minutes to wait. Fish and chips were some of the best I've ever tasted. This was the medium haddock!

Wow, no other words can describe the sheer pleasure of taste perfection or the pop of crispy batter, the chips soft centred and crisp on the outside.The curry sauce had the right spice and consistency, the most amazing taste. The jumbo battered sausage which arrived with great time was fried and cooked to an exceptional quality, and all mixed together. I am ruined for any other chip shop, but will always come back to eat at The Wetherby Whaler. Ps the takeaway for my food was provided and no additional cost, the staff was professional, polite and explained all clearly and concise.

Had the Large Haddock and Chips which was freshly cooked and very tasty! Filled me up very nicely and great value, the friendly service was perfect. Will definitely visit the next time I am in York.
