Located right on the side of the main road, easy access and parking. Welcoming polite and efficient staff. Good quality cod, chips and peas but the bread and 'butter' not so great when you consider the overall cost.

Called on our way home from a stay in Whitby. It is nearly a year since our last visit but were not disappointed. Fish and chips were great and our waitress Beth was lovely. She is an absolute asset to your company and made us feel we were valued customers.

Possibly the best fish & chips I've ever eaten. I had the haddock, of course, which was absolutely superb. A very efficient operation with plenty of cheerful staff. Highly recommended.

As Jim Bowen would have said... "super, smashing, great".Once you have got parked (the car park layout can be challenging if busy, only reason for the drop in star rating), Thompsons is possibly one of the best fish and chip restaurants I've been to.The batter is incredibly light and bubbly, fully encapsulating the fish so it it is perfectly cooked (the Haddock we both had was lovely and white, both firm yet melt in the mouth).Chips are nicely cooked, good portion size.We went around 6pm,it was pretty busy but still some tables available.Service was very quick and friendly, but the fish was hot and crisp, not soggy, so must have only recently come out of the fryer and been drained - not hanging around waiting to be ordered.Been a few times, never disappointed.And will be back again, always recommend to anyone travelling near York

The welcome from the staff on arrival is warm and friendly. The restaurant was scrupulous clean. The food was incredible, it arrived hot, very well presented and generous portions. The staff can't do enough for you and are extremely helpful and pleasant. Definitely worth all five stars.

This is a favourite of ours and has been for years. The food is consistently excellent and the staff are always friendly and efficient. The fish is beautiful and good value for money and the steak and ale pie is a whopper! The restaurant is beautifully clean and well set out with lots of parking. Well worth a visit.

Whilst I agree with the other reviews they are good, I just don’t think they are great. Pappa’s in Whitby are fantastic and are far better value. Worth a stop if your in the area and passing. £18 for two fish, chips and peas.
