York Zen in York

We were wandering the streets of York and came across this little gem and had to try it out 🤤Food is outstanding and I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting Japanese food in York 😊Even though there’s a sign saying cash only there’s an option to order online and pay for your meal through the website which is very convenient and avoids having to find a cash point if you don’t have cash on you 😉

Beautiful food in this quaint authentic Japanese resteraunt. Reasonable prices. Would be five stars but its so small their are no toilets

Place looks a bit like a takeaway (which it is!), but prices were very reasonable (2 starters, 2 mains, 2 beers and a coke came to £48), service was good and quick, and the food was absolutely delicious. Would very much recommend.

Really tasty - we had the chicken teriyaki bowl and buta shogayaki (pork and ginger), with fried veg gyozas on the side. All amazing, fresh flavours. Small restaurant but good atmosphere - feels very authentic. Lovely service and really quick. Made our first night in York memorable! Thank you 😊

Very welcoming and kind service. Cosy atmosphere. Food was delicious and worth every penny, can tell everything is fresh! Would definitely return again to this lovely family ran business!

Bumped into this place while visiting York. Friendly owner and surprisingly great Japanese food. They have a good selection on the menu. Restaurant itself is cosy with a couple of tables and some bench sitting area. They take cash only.

Having lived in Hong Kong for decades and been a frequent visitor to Japan, we like tasting Japanese cuisine. We can easily tell this restaurant serves authentic Japanese food. Glad we have found this family-run, small restaurant, definitely a hidden gem. Nothing fancy at the in-house decoration, but authentic taste of Japanese Don and rice set. Price is average but well worth the money paid( For the same price, we had very bad experience at a large chain Asian food. restaurant in U.K.)Will definitely come again!

Authentic little Japanese, delicious miso and a good variety of food and drinks on the menu for a reasonable price. Cash only, but I promise you it’ll be worth going to get cash out for! Friendly owners, would definitely recommend for a quiet lunch away from the main busy streets in York.

Fab service! Authentic food! Not too salty and love the homemade miso soup! Great options for vegan and veg! Def worth the visit for quality and service. Clean and relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommended! Love the way the tofu was cooked..very different from normal takeaway!

Nice little place. We enjoyed our lunch here, perfect noodles - al dented, not greasy, plenty of fresh veg. The Rice dish was great, too, nicely balanced. Both dishes came with great miso and salad.
