The Raj in York

Had takeaway from here a couple of times and loved it. Went a couple of months ago and it was okay. Then we went last week and it wasn't great at all. The food was really nice. Cannot fault it. The majority of the staff are great and really nice. However, there is one man, who I am assuming is the owner was incredibly rude to the staff in front of us, it.wss embarrassing and I felt so sorry for them. He also blew his nose without then washing his hands and processed to touch our plates. It made us feel abit sick. It's a shame because the staff otherwise are nice and the food is brill but that gentleman unfortunately has made us not want to return.

Just had a really delicious vegan takeaway, the staff were very helpful on the phone at helping me identify suitable starters (mains are all marked), and when it arrived we really enjoyed everything we had, especially the samosa and the dansak. JustEat were a bit of a let down on the delivery time and no tracking, but The Raj even helped with that when I called, so really can't fault their service here, and will definitely order again, or visit in person in the future!

Quite possibly the worst Indian restaurant I have dined in. The starter of onion barjee was dry and burnt and was unable to eat both. Thought they may be able to rescue the night with the main, but after waiting 50 minutes it never showed up. Seems like they were struggling as people were asking where the food was as nothing seemed to be moving, and waiting staff were making excuses that they are busy. Never got to try the main as was falling asleep waiting so tapped out. First time in York eating out so will try a different restaurant on next visit. Shocking service.

Very Disappointing New Years Eve curry. I ordered Imal sizzler Came with no sauce dry and tested burnt. I ended up sharing my husbands. All this restaurant wanted was bums on seats We didn't even get to eat our poppadoms as they brought the meal straight away. Dont bother going for a sit down meal.The ironic thing is i order takeaways all the time and they are fine. Stick to Takeaways only I will NEVER order again total rubbish.

Mains were disappointing. Small portion of rice could do nothing to soak up the masses of sauce which tried to overwhelm the overcooked chicken that was the only ingredient of the dish. Side dishes were good though.Service ranged from attentive to indifferent depending on which waiter came over.There are better places in York to have a curry.

Best Indian we have ever had, tasty and mouth watering flavour, staff were excellent and service was awesome. My partner had his birthday and we got a drink on the house and everyone sang happy birthday.. small but very inviting.. hidden treasure on our trip to York xx

We have had two flawless deliveries from here and each time left a nice comment, tonight’s delivery was far from that, we thought we had found a consistent outlet of amazing food but have returned to the decision “you get what you are given” we got the plates out ready then didn’t bother using them as just using a spoon in the tubs was ample. Very standard tonight and very disappointed, next time we’ll just get an Indian deal from Tesco and cook it ourselves

Never got any food when ordered. This restaurant uses Just eat and does not deliver themselves. When I waited and waited and Just Eat did not deliver response was I should take it up with delivery company, be prepared to jump through numerous hoops to get a refund. Why should this not be sorted out seemlessly between restaurant and delivery co and meal delivered? I was told by restaurant employee that the owner said he would not send out replacement meal for non delivery by company they work through. Nothing like shooting your self in the foot Mr Owner, will never try again and actively discourage others. Shocking! Oh and Just Eat try employing people who know the area!

Went here during a recent stay in York the food was good and the staff where very pleasant good value for money on the food and also the quality was very nice just wish it wasn't the other end of the country for us!

Great meal Tandoori mixed grill, chilli rice,vindaloo curry sauce and garlic nann with extra garlic. Outstanding!! Great service friendly thank you Raj.
